To give long term capital growth by investing in mainly shares of companies operating in Latin American countries.
Over the six months to the end of September, the returns from Latin American markets have proved negative. Share prices benefited from the continuing surge in commodities prices during April and May, with resource-rich countries such as Brazil enjoying particularly strong gains. However, energy and metals prices came off the boil from July and stock markets gave up their previous gains.
Looking ahead, SWIP is still optimistic about the region's long-term prospects. Against a general backdrop of political and economic reform and high commodity prices, SWIP believes Latin America is well placed to offer further good-quality investment opportunities.
