Fund Objective

GlobalSar is Sarasin's flagship global multi-asset fund range offering dynamic asset allocation and thematic stock selection. The Fund aims to reduce volatility in the long term and enhance performance by investing in derivatives and forward transactions.Benchmarked against the UK RPI, the Fund targets 3.5% outperformance over the Index.

View on Past Performance

The fund had an extremely difficult month. With weakness across all asset classes except sovereign bonds, there was little benefit from diversification. While the downside protection strategies we had in place did contribute positively, they provided limited cover from the force of the market drawdown. Volatility made the purchase of additional cover prohibitively expensive, so we have reduced market exposure.

Future Expectations

We expect the market to remain volatile in the short term and it will inevitably be some time before a degree of confidence is restored. That said, there are signs that the downturn in the US housing market is at least slowing, and relative to bonds, equities are now exceptionally cheap.
