Good Energy Group to buy wind energy from Danish firm

By Maryam Cockar

Date: Tuesday 21 Mar 2017

LONDON (ShareCast) - (ShareCast News) - Renewable electricity supplier Good Energy Group has agreed to source offshore wind power from Dong Energy's wind farm in the North Sea.
Good Energy will receive 12% of the output from Dong's 210 megawatt Westermost rough wind farm, which is enough to power over 26,000 average homes.

The deal will run for 12 months with a possibility of extension and the volume of power that the company will buy from Denmark-based Dong is intended to increase over time.

Good Energy chief executive and founder Juliet Davenport said the agreement will help the company meet the increasing demand for 100% renewable electricity as its customer base grows.

"Offshore wind will complement the other renewable technologies in our energy mix, such as onshore wind and solar, so this agreement is a great fit for Good Energy and a good deal for our customers", she said.

Søren Scherfig, head of trading and portfolio management at Dong, said that the deal with Good Energy is the first time a domestic supplier in the UK will buy energy from a specific Dong Energy offshore wind farm.

He added: "We have an ambition to support the energy transformation in UK and become one of the UK's leading energy suppliers to industrial & commercial customers and independent retailers. We want to supply sustainable, reliable and affordable energy to our customers"

Shares in Good Energy Group were up 1.96% to 260p at 0856 GMT.
