(Sharecast News) - Wall Street got off to a slightly positive start with losses in equity futures during the pre-market erased following news that the US House Of Representatives had approved a tax reform and reduction bill by the narrowest margins.
The proposed legislation, which President Donald Trump had labelled a 'big and beautiful' bill, was expected to be put to a vote in the Senate on Thursday.

Against that backdrop, as of 1400 GMT the Dow Jones Industrials was adding 26.04 points or 0.05% to 41,882.78, the S&P 500 was 10.49 points or 0.18% higher to 5,856.28.

The Nasdaq Composite meanwhile was ahead by 0.71% or 133.49 points to 19,005.26.

Front-dated West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures were slipping 0.91% to $60.66 a barrel on NYMEX amid speculation that OPEC+ was set to deliver another big output increase.



The yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury was off by one basis point at 4.587%, while that on the 30-year bond was up by one basis point to 5.102%.

Also helping to lift the mood, the Department of Labor reported that initial unemployment claims drifted lower by 2,000 over the week ending on 17 May to settle at 227,000 (consensus: 230,000).

S&P Global's flash composite output index for factory and services sector activity surprised to the upside, coming in at 51.2 for May, after a reading of 50.6 in April.

Existing home sales on the other hand undershot forecasts, printing at annual pace of 4.0m for the month of April (consensus: 4.1m), which was little changed on a March reading of 4.1m.
