US pre-open: Futures point to early gains despite Omicron's arrival

(Sharecast News) - Wall Street futures were in the green ahead of the bell on Thursday after America's first omicron case fuelled yet another sell-off in the previous session.
As of 1215 GMT, Dow Jones futures were up 0.90%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures had the indices opening 0.63% and 0.26% higher, respectively.
The Dow closed 461.68 points lower on Wednesday as the White House tightened travel restrictions in the wake of the variant's arrival in California, with the Biden administration requiring inbound passengers to the US be tested within 24 hours before departure. Biden also requested businesses proceed with vaccination requirements but the mandate was halted in courts pending review.
Ahead of the bell on Thursday, airline, casino and energy stocks were in the green, with Boeing, Royal Caribbean and MGM Grand all trading more than 2.5% higher in per-market.
In terms of earnings, Dollar General posted a third-quarter earnings per share beat and in-line revenues prior to the open but opted to narrow its full-year sales forecast, and supermarket giant Kroger will also report its latest quarterly numbers before the open.
On the macro front, Challenger job cuts data for November will be published at 1230 GMT, while the Labor Department's all-important jobless claims report will follow at 1330 GMT.
