Former newsreader Anna Ford joins retailer
Former newsreader Anna Ford is joining the board of N Brown, the catalogue retailer that specialises in catering for the bigger figure.
The 65-year-old is widening her interests outside journalism.
She is a non-executive director of Sainsbury, a trustee of Forum for the Future, an environmental group, and was until recently a Chancellor of Manchester University.
N Brown (down 2p to 188p yesterday), which owns catalogue company JD Williams, is one of the few retailers that has managed to pile on the pounds during the downturn.
It has seen a hefty increase in sales but its profit margins have been hit by a sharp increase in bad debts.
It has been deliberately targeting younger customers, who are more likely to fail to pay their bills.
