Dyson fills the vacuum as pop-ups get posher
A year ago, 'pop-up' shops were the domain of market traders, using the growing number of empty High Street premises to sell cheap fashion and perfumes.
Cleaning up: Lara Honnor, 26, from Brighton, tries a Dyson cleaner at the company's temporary shop at the Bluewater centre
But with upmarket brands Prada, Harvey Nichols, HMV and now vacuum cleaner maker Dyson joining in, these temporary stores, often taking advantage of discounted rents by landlords, are achieving legitimacy.
Dyson opened in the Bluewater shopping centre, Kent, this month and plans to keep the store, the former site of failed fashion retailer Morgan, for six weeks.
'People are intrigued by our technology and the ''pop-up'' space is a chance for them to get hands-on, quiz our engineers and see how things work,' said global creative director Jim Turner.
Prada opened a temporary store in Paris over the summer while Harvey Nichols opened food and wine stores in Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. In London, Marmite has opened a temporary store in Regent Street.
