IHG to revamp Crowne Plazas
InterContinental Hotels is planning a global revamp of its Crowne Plaza brand, after an upgrade to its stable of Holiday Inn hotels proved successful.
The world's largest hotels firm will unveil its plans today, as it reports a strong set of full-year results.
The Crowne Plaza overhaul will not be on the scale of its £625m relaunch of Holiday Inn, which saw 1,200 franchised hotels leave the group after being told to shape up or ship out.
But IHG (up 12p to 1387p) wants to standardise quality across the chain and is expected to tell underperforming franchises to invest to meet the standard of the newer Crowne Plazas in China.
