New boss is a new leaf at Yorkshire Tea maker
Until now it has been a family affair at Yorkshire cafe chain and tea producer Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate.
Fresh brew: Bettys & Taylors will be led by a boss from outside the family for the first time.
But next week the company will get its first outside chief executive, following the retirement after a long tenure at the company of boss Jonathan Wild, who joined his father Victor at Bettys in 1975.
Andrew Baker will take over on May 3, having previously worked with Duchy Originals, Cadbury and Tate & Lyle.
Under Wild's leadership staff numbers have trebled and sales grown to more than £100m.
Taylors of Harrogate has also gone to become Britain's third-biggest tea brand as makers of Yorkshire Tea.
Bettys exports to more than 30 countries, as well as having tearooms in Northallerton, Ilkley, Harrogate and York.
In the year to last October turnover jumped by 16% to £102.8m. Profits rose 21% to £9.4m, and the company gave £311,000 to charities.
Wild, 58, greatnephew of Frederick Belmont, who founded the chain in 1919, said that he was looking forward to his retirement.
Welcoming Baker to the business, a Bettys spokesman said: 'Andrew is an accomplished chief executive who brings a wealth of experience.
'His appointment means the future of the business will be in extremely capable hands.'
