BAE claims its ‘smart’ cabin will be first class travel for economy passengers - offering entertainment on tablet computers
Some of the little luxuries of first class travel could soon be available to those travelling economy, according to BAE Systems.
BAE has invented a new ‘smart’ cabin system for airlines offering LED lighting, entertainment via tablet computers and dimmable windows.
The ‘IntelliCabin’ technology could also give economy passengers the ultimate prize of more legroom, as BAE claims that its power systems are lighter and smaller than existing ones that take up room under seats.
Mod cons: BAE has invented a new smart cabin system for airlines
‘The small size and weight allows it to be installed by the airline so as not to impede legroom for the passenger, removing bulky under-seat power conversion boxes associated with existing systems,’ a spokeswoman said.
The technology could be in commercial aircraft by next year.
