New Burberry boss Christopher Bailey faces a backlash over his lavish £20m pay package
Christopher Bailey, the creative director-turned-chief executive of luxury retail group Burberry, is facing a backlash over his lavish £20million pay package.
Some institutional investors are understood to be concerned about Christopher’s two share awards for his performance as Chief Creative officer because of easy-to-reach targets for bonus payouts.
According to the Sunday Times, the Investment Management Association has put an ‘amber top’ rating on Burberry’s pay policies ahead of the annual shareholder meeting this Friday.

It has urged members – who control around 15 per cent of the stock market – to scrutinise Bailey’s remuneration before casting their votes.
÷ Ailing High Street giant Marks & Spencer is also facing tough questions at tomorrow’s annual meeting. Boss Marc Bolland is under pressure over disappointing clothing sales.
