Mulberry's bagged Johnny Coca: Luxury leather goods firm ends search for new creative director with Spanish designer appointment
New role: Spanish designer Johnny Coca
Mulberry has finally ended its 18-month search for a new creative director after appointing a Spanish designer who is unable to start work for another eight months.
The luxury leather goods firm has poached Johnny Coca from French fashion house Celine where he is widely credited with transforming their accessories, including handbags.
Mulberry is going through a torrid time after seeing its shares fall 67 per cent over the past two years having hiked prices and lost customers.
It ditched previous chief executive Bruno Guillon in March and will only now start its search for a replacement having insisted on filling the creative role first.
Seville-born Coca speaks four languages and has also worked for Louis Vuitton fashion giant LVMH.
Fashion expert Gemma Champ said: ‘Celine has amazing accessories.
The last couple of collections have been really significant and copied all over the high street.
‘Coca will hopefully bring a bit more humour to Mulberry, which has a quirky British style to it.’
The shares rose 22.5p to 772.5p.
