BT expected to choose between EE and O2 this week as buying either is set to cost around £10bn
BT is expected to name its preferred takeover target this week as chief executive Gavin Patterson pursues his strategy of going back into mobile phones.
The telecoms giant has said it wants a deal with either EE or O2. Buying either would cost around £10billion.
Reports over the weekend suggested BT is veering towards O2, which is currently owned by Telefonica of Spain, though it has not entirely ruled out EE, jointly owned by Orange of France and Deutsche Telekom.
Strategy: BT chief executive Gavin Patterson could announce bid target this week
BT was forced to exit the mobile phone market more than a decade ago when it was desperate to escape a multi-billion pound debt pile.
