This is Money readers spent £2,000 on solar panel cover - but the firm has gone out of business. Tony Hetherington replies: You paid £2,000 last October so your solar panels would be looked after for the next ten years, yet company records show that on 18 January this year NQ Energy Solutions was put into liquidation.

MONEY NEWS & ADVICE
Spare us politicians' quick fixes: We need more competence and less ideology says HAMISH MCRAE
Politics makes the headlines, but it is interest rates that shift the economics. That's the conclusion to be drawn from the past few days. Even the least observant of us will be aware that there is a General Election coming up, and there seems to be quite a lot of political stuff going on in America too. Yet the thing that clobbered the markets last week was the prospect that interest rates might come down a little more slowly than previously expected.
Inside Nvidia, the tech titan whose shares have soared 3,000% in five years. So can it still make YOU money?
Since going public on the eve of the Millennium, computer chip designer Nvidia has come from nowhere to the cusp of becoming the world's biggest company. It is the stock market success story of the century - and one that will shape the rest of our lives. In February, Nvidia became the fastest company ever to go from a $1 trillion to a $2 trillion stock market valuation. Astonishingly, it took just eight months. So just how did a start-up without a business plan that was founded in a California diner conquer all before it? And can British private investors get a slice of the action?
INVESTING EXPLAINED: What you need to know about the carry trade, which aims to exploit the differentials between interest rates of two nations
You borrow in the currency with the low interest rate to invest in the currency with the higher rate, calculating that you should enjoy superior returns, although, of course, profits are not guaranteed. The carry trade is wildly popular on Wall Street - and this is set to be the case for the rest of this year. Traders reckon that volatility in the currency markets is set to be low-ish.
How to budget and manage your money better: The simple rule-of-thumb to follow... and some tips for success
Do you have a budget? Even if you feel you've done quite enough thinking about your or the country's finances in recent times, let me put the case for doing just a bit more. Getting a household budget sorted and understanding what you have coming in and going out is a cornerstone of plotting a richer future.
First-time buyers' guide to getting on the property ladder: From what you can afford to getting the keys
The prospect of buying a home for the first time can be as daunting as it is exciting. For the majority of people it will be the biggest financial decision of their life, and this brings up plenty of questions. But if you understand the process from the beginning, it should make things a little easier. We explain everything from how to work out your budget and find your ideal home, through to applying for your first mortgage and navigating the legal process.
I think I now owe a four-figure sum of tax on my savings interest: Do I need to tell HMRC or will it contact me?
With the rise in savings interest rates recently I now believe I owe the tax man a four figure sum for the last tax year. I've read conflicting reports on whether I should tell them or that they will tell me. I have an uneasy feeling that if I tell them I may be opening up a worrying can of worms. What do I need to do?
I've clawed £1.2m back for readers, says HELEN CRANE: Here's how YOU can take the battle to a bank, energy firm or retailer... and win
Since February 2022, I've had the privilege of helping our readers fight for financial justice as This is Money's consumer champion - and this week marks the 100th Crane on the Case column. It says something about the way big companies treat their customers that my virtual mailbag is bulging week in, week out.
Pensioners being priced off the road by rising car insurance costs - but could make big savings with this simple 'sweet spot' renewal trick
Pensioners who face a choice between staying on the road or giving up driving thanks to rising insurance costs are being urged to renew in the 'sweet spot' to slash the cost of cover. While most drivers have faced higher renewal quotes in recent years, pensioners on tight budgets could be tempted to quit driving altogether if rises are too big to manage and as such, lose some of their freedom.
Scottish Mortgage has rebounded this year but shares are still 40% down on its peak - so is now a good time to buy?
Since its peak in late 2021 Scottish Mortgage shares have fallen more than 40 per cent to 895p as higher interest rates triggered a sell-off in technology stocks. Over the past year, Scottish Mortgage has managed to recoup some of its losses but it is still trading at a discount. Could the recent bounceback be the start of a new chapter for Scottish Mortgage, and is it a good time to buy?
VW Passat is 50 Not Out, says RAY MASSEY: But new version comes only as a five-seater estate
The first Volkswagen Passat was launched more than 50 years ago in 1973 - a year of platform shoes and flared jeans when Slade, Sweet, and T.Rex were riding high in the charts along with David Bowie's Life On Mars. Just in time for summer and flaming June, I've been driving the latest ninth-generation version which, for the first time, is available only as a family five-seater estate version with a large flexible boot, and not as a traditional saloon. The launch model is the frugal 150 horse-power 1.5 litre turbo-charged TSi mild-hybrid petrol with either a six or seven-speed automatic gearbox.

CITY WHISPERS: North Sea tax gushers to dry up under Labour
One of the lesser-spotted species of stock exchange announcements is the 'payments to governments' report. It is no surprise that they often contain juicy numbers and, for energy companies, it can be a good way to put their contributions to the taxman into perspective. Enter Harbour Energy: the largest producer in the North Sea.
Local councils urged to save Woodsmith workers at Anglo American
Councils must do everything to help workers who are laid off at Anglo American's mine in North Yorkshire into new jobs, a former secretary of state has insisted. The Mail revealed earlier this month that more than 1,000 roles could be cut at Woodsmith, which is a mammoth fertiliser mine being built under the North York Moors National Park. Simon Clarke, the Conservative MP for the nearby Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency, and a former Secretary of State for Levelling Up, told the Mail on Sunday he had already spoken to Redcar and Cleveland Council about providing support.

What business expenses CAN you claim against tax, and which are NOT allowed: Tips for the self-employed from our expert HEATHER ROGERS
All tax practitioners have at some point had a client who happily asserts that someone they know claims 'everything', and then had the unenviable task of putting the increasingly crestfallen client straight, says Heather Rogers. So, here is a general guide to expenses and the common areas where many people get caught out by the taxman - including clothing, food and drink.

I earn £65,000 - should I start taking child benefit again now the rules have changed?
I am a full-time working mum and earn £65,000 a year while my husband who works in a care home earns about £27,000. We have two children aged 6 and 4. When my first daughter was born I earned under £50,000 and so initially took child benefit. When my salary then went up, I stopped taking it and have not claimed it for the past four years - but I heard the allowances have changed and now I could be eligible again.
Seven great British stocks that are worth investing in now: JEFF PRESTRIDGE reveals his UK Magnificent Seven
It has been a good year for those who like a large slice of their Isas and pensions to be invested in the UK stock market. The FTSE 100, an index comprising the largest businesses listed in the UK, is up 8 per cent - and while one swallow doesn't make a summer, the portents are looking good. But which are the UK stocks that still look undervalued and could deliver good returns to investors. Jeff Prestridge takes a look at the UK's own 'Magnificent Seven'.
I'm going to see a financial adviser about my pension - but what should I ask them? STEVE WEBB replies
The financial adviser will be changing me, I think 0.75 per cent of what the pension is worth, which I can understand. I am going to elect for a face-to-face meeting. What do I need to ask him or her? I know everyone's case is different, but can you give me just a basic overview of what I need to ask them please?

My stint on I'm A Celeb paid for our extension... I call it the jungle room, reveals Edwina Currie
Edwina Currie, 77, is an author and one of Westminster's most colourful alumna, writes Angela Epstein. The MP for South Derbyshire from 1983 to 1997, Liverpool-born Currie served as a minister under Margaret Thatcher. But her career came to an abrupt end in 1988 when, as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health, she issued a warning about salmonella in British eggs and resigned. Married twice - her second husband, John Jones, died of cancer in 2020 - Edwina has two children and two grandchildren and lives in Derbyshire.
How to stop the taxman snapping up your children's inheritance: Experts reveal how to make sure they get your wealth
Anne Robinson may have amassed a hefty £50 million fortune thanks to decades working as a successful TV presenter and some shrewd property purchases. But, according to comments she made this week, The Weakest Link host may not have a penny to her name. 'I've given it all away,' she said in an interview with Saga magazine. 'I don't want the tax man to have it. I've spread it about quite a lot, to the children. They may as well enjoy it now.' While few families have wealth on the level of Anne, many share her point of view. After years of saving and earning, they wish to pass it on to their loved ones without their estate incurring a substantial inheritance tax bill.

That's because the nation's biggest breakdown service provider, the AA, has added fully electric trucks to its fleet, becoming the first UK-based roadside assistance firm to use EVs to recover stricken petrol and diesel cars, vans and motorcycles.
