(Sharecast News) - US mortgage applications fell by 5% in the week ended 19 December, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association, extending the prior week's 3.8% drop to hit their lowest in more than three months.
Applications to refinance a mortgage fell by 5.6% week-on-week, and applications to purchase a home slipped 3.7%.
The decline was broadly in line with a rebound in long‑dated Treasuries, as market participants continued to weigh the likelihood of multiple Federal Reserve interest rate cuts in 2026.
