(Sharecast News) - The market spotlight on Wednesday will be on the US central bank's policy announcement.
After the close of markets in London, the Federal Reserve is expected to say that it decided to keep interest rates on hold.
But what investors will really be interested in will be what policymakers will have to say on the outlook for inflation and rates going forward.
On home shores, overnight the British Retail Consortium will publish its Shop Price Index covering the month of January.
It will be followed at 0700 BST by the release of Nationwide's House Price Index for that same month.
Investors will also be keeping tabs on rate-setters in Ottawa, with official short-term rates in Canada expected to be lowered by 25 basis points to 3.0%.
Euro area money supply growth figures for December are due out at 0900 BST.
US tech giant Microsoft will release its latest quarterly figures after the New York close.
