(Sharecast News) - Wizz Air said in an update on Wednesday that it carried 5.1 million passengers in March - a 6.4% increase year-on-year - as the low-cost carrier expanded capacity and reported strong early trends for the summer season.
The airline increased its seat capacity by 6.7% during the month, while the load factor edged down slightly by 0.3 percentage points to 90.5%.
It put the marginal decline in load factor down to the timing of Easter, which falls entirely in April this year, in contrast to March in 2024.
Wizz Air noted that despite the shift, passenger volumes remained resilient, adding that the start of its first financial quarter of the 2026 year had been strong, with April fares up in the mid-to-high teens year on year.
Forward bookings for the peak summer period were described as encouraging, with current load factors running two to three percentage points ahead of the same point last year.
On a trailing 12-month basis, Wizz Air carried 63.4 million passengers, up 2.2% year on year, on capacity growth of 1.1%.
The load factor for the period rose one percentage point to 91.2%.
Wizz also reported continued progress on emissions intensity, with carbon emissions per revenue passenger kilometre falling 1.0% year on year in March to 51.0 grams, reinforcing its claim as one of Europe's most sustainable airlines.
At 0902 BST, shares in Wizz Air were down 0.28% at 1,433p.
