German inflation falls to eight-month low, final estimates confirm

(Sharecast News) - German inflation was confirmed at an eight-month low in June, according to final estimates from the Federal Statistical Office on Thursday, as price pressures for food eased and energy prices continued to fall.
The year-on-year rate of consumer price inflation in Germany slowed to just 2.0% last month, in line with the preliminary estimate released two weeks ago.
That was down from the 2.1% rate seen over April and May, and the lowest since October 2024.
"The rate of inflation eased again slightly in June and reached the lowest level registered in the first half of the year," said Ruth Brand, president of Destatis.
"In addition to the continued decline in energy prices, food price inflation slowed in particular. On the other hand, the above-average increase in service prices continued to drive up inflation," Brand said.
Energy prices were down 3.5% compared with a year earlier, though the rate of deflation eased from -4.6% in May and -5.4% in April.
Food price inflation slowed significantly to 2.0% from 2.8%, while service-sector inflation eased to 3.3% from 3.4%.
