Eurozone investor sentiment slumps after EU-US trade deal

(Sharecast News) - Investor confidence across the eurozone has unexpectedly dropped to its lowest in four months, with the trade deal struck between EU and US officials dampening spirits among financial experts.
Sentix's August survey of institutional investors and analysts saw the economic index slump to -3.7, down from +4.5 in July and the lowest since April when Donald Trump first embarked on his wide-ranging tariff war with America's trading partners.

"The wrinkles of concern in the economy are deepening again," the sentiment analysis firm wrote in its monthly report.

"Even German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who recently raved about a turnaround in the economy, has been proven wrong: the Germany index has collapsed by more than 12 points to -12.8 points."

Sentix conducted its survey between 31 July and 2 August, just days after European commission president Ursula von der Leyen agreed on a deal to impose 15% tariffs on EU imports into America.

The current situation index fell to -13 from -7.3, while the expectations indicator dropped to +6.0 from +17.0.
