UK producer price inflation hits two-year high

(Sharecast News) - Producer price inflation in the UK surged to a two-year high in June, according to data out on Wednesday from the Office for National Statistics.
In its interim publication before the ONS resumes its monthly releases of produce price indices (PPI) in October, the statistics agency said that factory gate prices were 1.9% higher than a year ago in June, hitting its highest since May 2023.

That's up from 1.3% in May and a revised 0.7% in April, the ONS said.

The data comes amid rising concerns about growing inflationary pressures in the UK, with consumer price inflation (at 3.8% in July) expected to reach the 4% level next month - a level not seen since January 2024.

The ONS had suspended the publication of its regular PPI release back in March after discovering errors in data over the past five years.

"We intend to resume full publication of our monthly PPI and SPPI bulletins in October 2025. This pause reflects the need for a substantial rebuild of the processing system and for the time needed to sufficiently quality assure the outputs. So far, the development work is progressing well," the agency said.
