(Sharecast News) - Germany's unemployment rate edged down in November, according to the Federal Employment Agency, though officials warned the labour market remained sluggish.
Germany's jobless rate slipped to 6.1% in November, down 0.1 percentage point from October, as the number of unemployed fell by 26,000 to 2.855m. However, compared with the same time a year earlier, 111,000 more people were out of work, leaving the rate 0.2 points higher than November 2024.
FEA chairwoman Andrea Nahles said: "The weakness of the economy persists and the labour market remains without momentum. Unemployment and underemployment decreased in November as is usual for the season. The number of people in work is stagnating and labour demand remains subdued."
Europe's largest economy has struggled to regain traction, with the third quarter of 2025 failing to deliver the rebound many had expected as US tariffs, global trade headwinds and competition from China continued to weigh on Germany's industrial base.
Job vacancies fell again in November, with 624,000 positions registered, 44,000 fewer than a year earlier, though officials noted some signs of low‑level stabilisation, wjile there was also a decline in the number of workers placed on reduced hours under a government scheme designed to help firms through periods of weak output.
