Eurozone construction output weakens for second straight month

(Sharecast News) - Construction output across the eurozone weakened for the second straight month in February with economic powerhouses France and Germany among those registering the steepest declines.
Seasonally adjusted production in construction across the single-currency region fell by 0.2%, according to data released on Monday from Eurostat, following a 1.3% drop in January.

This was the fifth time in seven months that construction output has declined month-on-month.

Building construction and civil engineering production both improved by 0.2% compared with January, but specialised construction activities fell by 0.3%.

Belgium and France registered the steepest declines in overall output across the bloc on a month-on-month basis, with activity falling 1.4% in both countries, followed by Germany which saw a 1.2% decrease.

However, the strongest monthly growth rates were seen in Slovenia (+5.5%) and Slovakia (+5.4%).

Compared with February 2025, overall eurozone construction output was down 1.9%, marking just the second time in 14 months that output has fallen year-on-year following a 4.1% annual slump registered in January.
