Judges Scientific confirms weaker first-half trading

(Sharecast News) - Judges Scientific said on Thursday that first-half trading was weaker than the prior year as expected, with revenue falling 21% from £70.2m amid the absence of a Geotek coring expedition, uncertainty around US federal scientific research funding, delays to offshore wind projects and changes to China's R&D tax exemption process.
Order intake declined 11% year on year, although second-quarter orders were broadly flat, while the order book stood at 17.3 weeks compared with 15.7 weeks at the end of 2025.

The AIM-traded scientific instruments group said first-half adjusted earnings per share were expected to be between 38p and 42p after lower sales volumes, despite a £2m reduction in the cost base of underperforming businesses.

The board maintained its full-year outlook for adjusted earnings per share in line with market expectations, supported by a lower cost base, Patent Box tax relief and a healthy order book, but said the next Geotek coring expedition was now expected to take place no earlier than 2028 rather than 2027.

At 1237 BST, shares in Judges Scientific were down 2.16% at 4,525p.
