(Sharecast News) - Anthropic said on Thursday its AI Claude model hacked systems of three organizations during testing, days after rival OpenAI revealed a rogue agent had gone on a days-long hacking spree at AI firm Hugging Face. Claude gained unauthorized access to the systems during cybersecurity evaluations after a misconfiguration allowed the models to reach the internet from testing environments that were supposed to be isolated, Anthropic said. - Guardian
England's regional mayors will be able to break out of the "death grip of the Treasury" by borrowing to invest in big projects under "transformational" plans to shift power out of Whitehall. For the first time, mayors will keep a share of income tax generated in their area from 2028, as well as business rates totalling tens of millions of pounds by April 2027. - Guardian
Jaguar Land Rover is cutting hundreds of jobs after last year's crippling cyber attack. On Thursday, the carmaker said around 300 staff and managers would be axed as part of a cost-cutting drive. JLR said affected employees would be offered alternative roles or the option of voluntary redundancy. Production line workers will not to be affected by the cuts. - Telegraph
The number of wealthy non-dom taxpayers shrank by 1,200 last year amid warnings that Labour's tax rises could push even more rich people offshore. New figures from HMRC reveal that 9,000 non-doms - foreign investors living in Britain - left the country or changed their tax status in the financial year ending April 2025. - Telegraph
Apple beat quarterly sales and profit estimates after reporting strong demand for the iPhone in Tim Cook's last earnings report as chief executive. The world's most valuable publicly traded company said sales for the third fiscal quarter ended June 27 were up 16.4 per cent to $109.4 billion, compared with analyst estimates of $108.65 billion. - The Times
