(Sharecast News) - Trustpilot and GlobalData were among the risers on the FTSE 250 on Friday as both stocks continue to recover after a battering earlier in the week.
Trustpilot shares were up nearly 7% at 229.2p in afternoon trade, though remained firmly below the 262p level seen at the start of the week before first-half results revealed some accounting issues at the online review platform.
The shares dropped around 19% on Tuesday after Trustpilot pointed to a $1m provision for historical US sales taxes, identifying an exposure where sales tax had not been applied to certain customer invoices in prior years. The company also said it recently identified that technical guidance on the determination of distributable reserves was incorrectly applied and that the same issue also affected funding provided by the company to its Employee Benefit Trust to acquire shares for employee incentive arrangements.
This has no impact on the consolidated results, net assets or cash position, or on the company's current trading. However, it will need to convene a general meeting to seek shareholder approval to ratify the relevant purchases.
Globaldata was also up 3% on Friday, attempting to rebound after sinking to a multi-year low following a profit warning on Monday. The data and analytics group warned that full-year profits would fall short of market expectations as weaker-than-expected revenue growth and increased investment pressured margins.
Other movers include Bytes Technology, which was boosted by an upgrade from Berenberg from 'hold' to 'buy'. The broker raised its target price sharply from 360p to 520p after a stronger‑than‑expected first‑half update and improved guidance.
Retailers were mostly weaker, with B&M, Pets at Home and Dunelm all in the red. Even a positive analyst note from Shore Capital couldn't lift Dunelm's shares. The broker said, given the stock is trading on a single‑digit forward earnings multiple and offering a yield of around 6%, the market was giving too little credit to the medium‑term growth potential.
One bright spark in the retail sector was Wickes after Deutsche Bank upgraded the shares to 'hold' from 'sell' and lifted the price target to 210p from 165p, saying it believes the downside risk to earnings is mitigated by better current trading and a growing pipeline of projects.
